1. Purpose and Scope

Provide a repeatable end-of-day walkthrough for an office employee designated to close the premises. Actual closing duties, access controls, emergency procedures, and authorization must be supplied and approved by the business.

2. Before You Start

  • Confirm you are authorized to perform closing duties.
  • Have the business-approved closing checklist and contact information available.
  • Follow your workplace’s existing safety, security, and emergency instructions.

3. Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Check each assigned work area for people who are still working. Do not secure an occupied area without following company policy.
  2. Check designated shared spaces using the locations listed in the company-specific checklist.
  3. Confirm only the equipment explicitly listed in company instructions is powered off. Do not interrupt servers, refrigeration, alarms, or other systems.
  4. Close designated windows and interior doors according to the business’s security procedure.
  5. Secure the exit using the company’s approved method, and confirm the expected locked state.
  6. Record completion in the approved log, including date, time, name, and any unresolved issue.

4. Exceptions

If someone remains onsite, a required device cannot be checked, or a door does not secure, do not guess. Follow the business’s escalation instructions and record the issue. For immediate danger, follow workplace emergency procedures.
